(Note from the Author: After I wrote this article, news came out that the new Matrix movie may not be a remake or reboot. The whole situation seems very weird and vague. Keep that in mind when you read this.)
This week came with some interesting movie news. Sony is going through with their solo Venom movie and The Matrix is getting rebooted.
This raised the question, “Why are these movies being made?”
Of course the simple answer would be money. Neither of these movies are particularly good ideas. I was under the impression that Sony was going to leave the Spider-Man franchise to die after Tom Holland brought Spidey to the MCU, but apparently not. Of course the Venom movie has the potential to be good, but if I had to guess, it’s just going to feel like this weird superhero movie that doesn’t belong anywhere. And then we have the Matrix reboot. My perspective is that the movie can’t be as good as the first one if they just take the same step as the first movie, but they could make it more modern and do some really unique stuff with it. I hope that that’s the direction they’ll go in, but it’ll most likely just be a cash grab.
Of course I’d love for these movies to be great, but as of right now, I’m very skeptical. Tell me what you think in the comments.
