Spindrift: Thoughts on Kong – Skull Island

I love Peter Jackson, so naturally I love his adaptation of King Kong. I still think that it’s a great movie and one of the best monster movies of all time. After the new Godzilla movie came out it was announced that we would get a Godzilla vs. King Kong movie. Of course Peter Jackson’s King Kong wasn’t viable for the project, so now we have Kong: Skull Island. A new trailer came out last night and I really enjoyed it.

First of all, I have to say I like how they made King Kong look noticeably different. Of course he’s much bigger than the previous Kongs, since he has to go toe to toe with Godzilla. Kong wasn’t the only massive creature in the trailer though. There are some really cool lizard creatures that seem like an obvious tie in to Godzilla. I also noticed how vibrant the colors in the movie are. The style is much different than that of the Peter Jackson version. The tone also seems to be a bit lighter. Any way that they can make this seem different than previous versions will be great. The cast is also extremely talented. I loved the cast of Jackson’s King Kong movie though so it’ll be hard to top.

So far I’m really intrigued by this movie and can’t wait so see what happens with it. Thanks for reading.
