Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice Review

Batman v. Superman had a very strange release.

It’s been a three year wait, since Man of Steel, for the next movie in the DCU. The critics tore this movie apart landing it at a 29 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. It seems as though no one really cared about the critics due to the fact that Batman V Superman had the biggest opening weekend of any comic book movie of all time. I’ve seen it twice now and wanted to share my thoughts.

I left the movie theater completely happy with what I saw. I will say though that if you can’t handle dark superhero movies and very adult themes this movie is not for you. Batman V. Superman explores how the world would realistically react to a god-like alien coming to earth. It expands on Man of Steel and provides many different opinions on the topic of superheroes.

The acting was phenomenal. Henry Cavil continued to portray a multi layered Superman and Ben Affleck gave a very convincing and unique take on Batman. Even though Gal Gadot only had 16 lines I really enjoyed her as Wonder Woman. Now here’s a controversial statement. I liked Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.

Just kidding… I loved him as Lex Luthor. He pulls the strings in the background of the movie and sets up Batman and Superman’s relationship. I can’t wait to see more of him in the future.

As for the soundtrack there was a lot to love. Lex Luthor’s theme stood out to me along with Wonder Woman’s. A lot of Man of Steel songs returned as well which I can’t complain about.

Now let me talk about the Dawn of Justice portion of the movie. The way that the Justice League is foreshadowed is clever. Ezra Miller’s Flash stood out the most to me. I can’t wait to see him in a solo movie. People keep complaining that DC isn’t doing things the same way as Marvel, but why wouldn’t you like to see something different? I don’t understand the hate DC gets.

Overall Batman V. Superman was a great movie and fantastic at getting me excited for what’s to come.
