Spindrift: First Impressions of Titanfall 2

The first Titanfall game was super intriguing to me. The thought of normal infantry units fighting along side titans was just so cool and unique. As a whole, I enjoyed the game, although it didn’t hold my interest as long as I would have liked it too. Now Titanfall has another chance to win the hearts of gamers.

I played the “tech test” on my Xbox One and really enjoyed it. The grappling hook ability really adds a whole new layer to the movement and makes gameplay feel more fluid. If you can take advantage of all of your movement abilities, you can move through the map at ease. I also thought the maps were a pretty good size and felt very different from each other in terms of open area and how fights took place. The new game mode, “bounty hunt,” is such an intelligent concept. I spent most of my time playing that. The titan gameplay was everything that I expected, and the new titans had really cool abilities.

The game also promises a single player campaign, which will be an awesome way to really dig into the lore of the games. We saw little glimpses of how cool the lore was in the original Titanfall game through details on the maps. A single player campaign will really add a lot to the experience I think, I just hope they spent as much time on the multiplayer.

Titanfall 2 has a lot of competition this year with all of the other first person shooters coming out. We’ll see if it rises above the WW1-based Battlefield One and the futuristic Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. I’ve really enjoyed the diversity in first person shooters this year and would like to see where they go in the future. Thanks for reading.
