Spindrift: First Impressions of Pokémon Sun and Moon

The first trailer for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon came out, and I’m very impressed. We got a lot of information, and surprisingly none of it was leaked beforehand. There was a gameplay heavy American trailer and a more story based Japanese one. If you haven’t seen the Japanese trailer I would recommend watching it because if you were or are a Pokémon fan it will probably warm your heart. It’s a shame we don’t have more trailers like that in America.

I’ll talk first about the starter Pokémon. I really liked the designs and have no complaints. My favorite is probably Rowlet with Popplio being my second favorite. Litten is cool too, but I’ve always been partial to grass. I’m really interested in seeing how they turn out in their final evolutions, and if they have mega evolutions.

Region wise I think it’s safe to say that Alola is based off Hawaii, which I’m very happy about. It will provide a unique landscape to what we’re used to at this point. The characters also dress differently due to the different climate which is a cool detail. It also looks like trainers will be visible in battle and the battles will take place right where you are on the map rather than a generic setting. This high level of detail will greatly enhance the immersion greatly. I also have my fingers crossed that customizable clothes will return.

As for the legendries I really don’t know which one I like more. The lion looks epic as hell but I really like the purple color scheme for the bat. I may just end up deciding on the version I buy based on exclusive Pokémon if there are any. I can’t wait to see how they play into the story. There are also rumors that there may be some kind of Pokémon and human combining which would be crazy. We’ll just have to wait and see. Thanks for reading.
